What a cool map! Only a few days ago, it showed that the greater area of NY was at its color peak, while today only Long Island remains an interesting spot to admire the Canadian summer.

In Belgium, autumn is nowhere near its peak... Only very few tree species have merely begun losing their leaves while almost all should be bare by now. Yesterday was the warmest 26th October since the beginning of meteorological records in 1833. October 2006 will likely be the warmest or the second warmest October ever since, breaking or nearing the record of, indeed, 2005. September 2006 already was the warmest September ever recorded, making the fall of 2006 the warmest ever, following the warmest summer ever. Half of the top 10 temperature records are years from the past decennium. And at the university of Ghent, for the first time ever(!), we couldn't offer freshly fallen Ginkgo leaves to the students in the Gymnosperms practical course in the last week of October... because none were to be found on the ground!
